The critical reasons why legal firearm ownership and community safety involvement is everyone’s responsibility

The use of firearms on private property

Every day, more than 80 people are murdered in South Africa even more are hijacked, raped and assaulted. This is why South Africans live in fear for their families and are effectively raising their children in jail. Behind high walls with electric fences, camera’s and armed response units on standby. Health professionals are warning about the harmful effects of children not getting outside enough. The fact is, we are too scared to take our children to play at parks, ride their bikes with friends or even take a walk. We can all agree that South Africa’s crime situation should be tackled, but here is the critical reason why Firearms.co.za believes that legal firearm ownership along with community safety involvement is no longer optional. It is everyone’s responsibility.

A lot can happen in five minutes: Legal firearm owners are the first line of defence against crime and therefore the country’s biggest assets.

Legally armed South Africans have repeatedly proven that they are the first line of defence in the fight against crime. Many South Africans have woken up to the fact that they are the first responders in the event of a crime where their family or community is threatened with violence. Many people rely on private security, and although they are highly trained, by the time they arrive at an emergency situation it is already too late, especially on farms and isolated rural communities where it can take up to 30 minutes for them to arrive.

The fact is – even if you have the best armed response company, five minutes are a very long time to stare down death.

Get lawfully armed!Firearms.co.za and Firearms Guardian encourages all South Africans to obtain their firearm licences and complete their competency tests. We do not encourage vigilantism of any kind! We have carefully outlined how to do this in this up-to-date article.

Get involved!

Legally armed communities that stand together to hunt the wolves that others think don’t exist:

There have been many stories in the media of incidents where strong communities of legally armed citizens can stand up and protect the lives of  vulnerable members of their community, especially those living in isolated rural areas. In a recent case study, we saw a farmer face off against three assailants to protect his wife and property. He was highly trained and acted with discipline. Last year, a group of legally armed farmers in Hoedspruit stopped and arrested stock thieves by blocking the road. After a brief shootout, the farmers (all legally armed) worked together with the local police to apprehend and arrest the suspects.

Who we are:
